Jasmine Elizabeth

Artist statement

It can be compelling to understand something, to assert that we understand what that work is, and have that be what defines it, the artist, and ultimately, what defines us. It is my belief that art should never be clear. It should never have an easy conclusion.

My vision is to reduce a subject to its most basic forms, giving the viewer the most necessary shapes required to interpret what they are seeing. The amount of visual information stripped away varies, but the overall effect remains the same; that is, removing myself from the painting and requiring the viewer to bring to the painting their own preconceptions and experiences so they may reach their own conclusions about what they are seeing.
