In this collection of work entitled Nostalgia, artist Sue Katz has combined her love of bright and unusual colors with her affinity for the retro images of the 1950’s and 1960’s. Each of the elements, not randomly chosen, has its own reason for being in the space which it owns. The artist considers the entire piece carefully and takes into consideration the space and color surrounding it. The elements are funky and fun, but also gives the viewer a feeling of nostalgia. Perhaps the art brings us back to a time when things were easy and innocent; a time that we might like to re-visit if we had such a chance.
Katz uses many images from her childhood-old photos of family and vacations in the Catskills. Through these personal images, as well as the use of connective color, viewers are treated to a window on the past.
