"Facing Autism," oil paintings

The artist paints portraits of children diagnosed with autism. “My intention is to visualize a disability that cannot be seen physically. I want to show the beauty and pain of these children as they struggle to make sense of a social world they are ill equipped to manage within. I want to put 'a face' on the disability of autism, but also to show how these children must 'face' our world on a daily basis.”—Kathleen Dugan
