Relationships. Cynthia Vaicunas, Chicago’s Bulgarian Children and Laura Lencioni portray their relationships with art and the earth and the language necessary to convey these thoughts during ARC’s November exhibit.

A Panel Discussion including the Bulgarian children artists will be held Sunday, Nov 15 at 3:00.

Exhibition dates: October 28 through November 21, 2015
Gallery hours: Wed to Sat 12-6 pm, and Sun. 12-4 pm

A turn of line, the journey of a mark, abstract shapes both geometric and biomorphic, bundled and twisted – all these converse with each other both within and bouncing off of canvas boundaries. These are the relationships and dialogues that Cynthia Vaicunas explores in her New Work, and these conversations continue between individual paintings when they are hung together.

Looking at them we see how her language changes and varies, seeking humorous and calm statements. She uses technique and color to reflect the changing daily sights of her world, yet the paintings achieve a unity in her discoveries.

In Italian, semenza means “a sown field”, as in a field of wheat or other similar crop. It also refers to the batch of seeds used to sow a field, and, more abstractly, the “cause, reason, subject, spring or root.” *
Lencioni has an avid interest in all things agricultural, as well as all things artistic, and she is always looking for ways to combine her passion for organic gardening with her passion for creating art. Semenza is a fitting title for a body of work devoted to exploring the connection between the creative forces at work in the garden and the creative process of the artist.

For this year’s Chicago Artists Month, the membership of ARC Gallery and Educational Foundation is investigating the theme, The City as Studio. Chicago provides a great backdrop for artistic exploration.  It is a city of innovation and experimental production.  Yet, deeper than that, is the way the city connects to us, through us, and connects us to each other.  These connections can be a literal interpretation of the city amazing landscape but also an internal exploration of the threads the weave their way into us through Chicago’s deep seated culture, sense of home, civic pride (or shame)and family that is unavoidable to escape in a city as proud as Chicago.
