MAINE CYCLES  works on paper

Opening Reception: Friday, November 4, 6-9pm

In her exhibit, “MaineCycles,” Ann O’Brien presents an exploration of “ordinary” objects transformed into paint. Colors, shapes and textures seek to involve the viewer with the medium. Commonplace objects, something that might be overlooked are noticed, inspected, and interpreted. The irregularities and diversity of the bumps or holes on an aging plant; the changing, subtle expanses of shape and color in a farm landscape; the impression of the mechanics and speed of bicycles may be recognized. Subjects are then re-interpreted and composed of subtle variations. O’Brien’s works are about the paint.

THINGS SEEN ARE THINGS AS SEEN  mixed media

Opening Reception: Friday, November 4, 6-9pm

“Things seen are things as seen” is an exhibition of abstract, three-dimensional works works built of plastic, and small paper construction that use the complexity of visual phenomena as a metaphor for thought and feeling. The gestural forms and spatial quirks of these works are used to create tension and suggest vitality. The inspiration for these works comes from all aspects of MacLeish’s life: thoughts, feelings, memories, sensations, the visible and invisible alike.
