Soshana

Show ran from 2/6/2008 to 3/1/2008

“Artistic Passages,”  oil and acrylic paintings

A retrospective of selected paintings from the 1940s to the present by the internationally known artist Soshana, who has lived and worked in art capitals throughout the world.  Displaced from Vienna by the Nazis, she went on to Paris where she was part of an artistic circle that included Picasso, Brancusi, Giacometti and Sartre; she then worked in Asia, and North and South America.  Soshana now, once again, resides in the city of her birth.

A new entry about ‘Soshana, Artistic Passages in Life and Spirit’ has been posted on ArtStyle Blog.

Kenneth Michael Hall

Show ran from 2/6/2008 to 3/1/2008

“Zones of Permeability,”  oil and acrylic paintings

In Hall’s words, “benign objects like flowers, mushrooms, and children’s toys act as symbols of wartime destruction, spiritual mystery, and sexuality.” For the artist, his large paintings are “dreamscapes,” and painting in general is a “rich metaphor for questioning the nature of being human and having skin.”

Mirjana Ugrinov with Robin Behn

Show ran from 2/6/2008 to 3/1/2008

“Naked Writing,” installation

A collaboration between Chicago artist, Mirjana Ugrinov and nationally-known poet, Robin Behn, a Barrington native, former Guggenheim fellow and author of three award-winning books of poems.   Resembling huge pages of a book unfurling in air, the lines of Behn’s poetry are superimposed upon Ugrinov’s sculpted, translucent sheets to tell a complex, erotic storyline in several voices.

Artist Talk: Saturday, February 16, 6-8 pm, free & open to the public.
