Jan Parker

Jan Parker was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She received her M.F.A. in sculpture with an emphasis on installation and environmental art from Western Carolina University. Part artist, biologist, sociologist, and ecologist, she has most recently researched the invasive plant kudzu for her own art and even cultivated it indoors (surprisingly difficult.) She, like many contemporary artists, is using her creativity and research in ways that blur the boundaries of art and other disciplines. She currently lives, works and exhibits in Chicago.

Statement: I am constantly responding to my environment. Through art making, my responses become self-expression, self-examination, activism, and communication.
