Artist Statement and Bio

Taking cues from the Fluxus Art Movement and contemporary issues in the world of high tech innovation, Melanie Adcock's artwork takes on a playful questioning of materials, concepts and norms.  She is currently working on a new series of artworks involving drawing and installation for her upcoming 2011 solo exhibit at ARC Gallery.

Melanie Adcock has a successful career in high tech software sales and runs her own business providing start up firms with effective sales and marketing strategy. She is an active member of ARC Gallery and has a life long track record of being a fine artist. Her career encompasses a productive blend of communication and creativity intersecting business, high tech, and arts & entertainment. Her unique acumen brings both business savvy to the art world and a mindset to high tech sales similar to mastering an artistic discipline. This rare hybrid brings her great delight of being and empowers her to make innovative ideas happen in a powerful way in both business and art. 

Artistic Accomplishments:

  • #1 Listing for "30 Artists Under 30," in UR Chicago Magazine, 2004.
  • Artistic Curator for "Crowning Glory," at the Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs. Professional exhibits include ARC, Heaven, Open End and Randolph Street Galleries, The Illinois State Museum and Chicago Cultural Center.
  • Permanent display of artworks in the Acorn Theatre in Three Oaks, MI.
  • College Instructor at the International Academy of Design and Technology.
  • BFA Kansas City Art Institute, MA Eastern Illinois University, Fine Arts.
  • National Academic Recognition for college GPA.
  • Internships at The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History and the Office of Exhibits Central in Exhibit Design and Exhibit Planning and The Dennis Morgan Gallery in Kansas City, MO for Commercial Art Sales.

  • Started a profitable independent business in 2009 as a Chicago as a Revenue Generation Strategy Consultant for start-up entrepreneurs.
  • Contributed to generating over 3 million dollars in sales throughout her sales career and has scaled successful cold calling strategies across two Chicago based High Tech firms.
  • Melanie works at a fantastic software company called OutStart and drives the business development effort for one of their software divisions.
