Anne Mondro
8/1/2008 to 8/23/2008
OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, August 1, 6-9 pm
"Vulnerable Series," digital prints
Mondro is focusing on the complexity of human relationships. To create her large format digital images, abstract human figures are posed in various gestures to convey emotions, intimacy, and vulnerability, and then photographed. The human figures are life-size flexible sculptures hand-crocheted out of steel wire. Crocheted wire allows the figures to interlace each other physically and metaphorically, expressing these communal sensibilities. The artist states that the color and texture of the steel wire adds to the work by portraying the figures as ethereal silhouettes, evoking associations with mortality and spirituality.
Cheri Reif Naselli
8/1/2008 to 8/23/2008
"Ambiguity of the Abyss," mixed media installation
With video and audio components, as well as drawing and painting, Cheri Reif Naselli explores her "attraction to the horizon line of the Lake, with its vastness and its constantly seductive shifting of light, reflecting changing perceptions in a time of transition." Ominous undertones underlie the natural imagery with its sense of freedom.
Marjorie Durko Puryear
8/1/2008 to 8/23/2008
"Between the Lines," woven notes and memorabilia
Using old handwritten documents which include diaries, letters, personal address books and business ledgers, textile artist Puryear creates narrative wall works by employing digital design and electronic jacquard weaving techniques. The artist describes her work, "I am inspired by cast-offs of ordinary importance. My intention is to honor the simplicity of these written records, their meaning blurred by time, and find beauty in ordinary parts of everyday life."
