"Facing Autism," oil paintings

The artist paints portraits of children diagnosed with autism. “My intention is to visualize a disability that cannot be seen physically. I want to show the beauty and pain of these children as they struggle to make sense of a social world they are ill equipped to manage within. I want to put 'a face' on the disability of autism, but also to show how these children must 'face' our world on a daily basis.”—Kathleen Dugan

"The Post Narrative," a video projection installation of animated text, LCD flat TV screens and ink jet printing on plexi-glass

The projected text is a segment from a semi-autobiographical text which was written from the perspective of an Israeli and Jewish artist who is searching for a definition and the meaning of her identity in relation to the collective narrative. The "Post Narrative" is rewritten to challenge the conventional timeline of events, to enable a glance, through and beyond, the literal layer of the narration.

At its end, the form of the story is transcended, allowing the essential matter to emerge. The text also refers to locations, which were chosen due to their relevance to the current conflict in the Middle East-- like Haifa and the Valley of Nis Nas. Vadi Nis Nas is an Arab and Jewish neighborhood in Haifa which has produced rich dialogue and cultural cooperation between the two people, a long lasting symbol and a reminder of the possibility of co-existence.

"Objects as Symbols - Symbols into Art,"  various media, various artists

I Give Up (IGU) is a nonprofit 501c3 organization supporting projects that provide sustainable relief and help people to help themselves. Our mission is to provide aid to those suffering from poverty in the areas of greatest need around the world by finding, researching and supporting projects through regional and local volunteers.

The Gates Project—Objects as Symbols. Early in 2006, objects or symbols of individual challenges were donated to us. Artists could then chose objects to incorporate into an artwork or donate existing work. The GATES Project is a national fundraiser. Proceeds from the Art Auction will support several projects in Africa that provide solutions to help people help themselves.

"The Talking Portrait Installation: Portraiture and New Media," paintings, time-lapse photography and soundscapes

Artists Tompalski (painter) and Thompson (videographer) have developed a form of portraiture that includes paintings, portable CD-ROM Players and compressed video. The portraits are painted from a live model sitting for approximately six hours. The audio portion is edited from the comments, questions and reflections made by the model during the sitting, and the time-lapse photography records the development of the portrait. Thus the audience is invited into the intimate personal experience of a portrait sitting.

"Paintings and Drawings," water color paintings, drawings using graphite on paper

"Life in the big city has been my initial inspiration. (I was born and raised in Chicago.) The unifying theme of my work deals with urban bureaucracy. I keep my paintings small to give viewers the intimate experience of being drawn into the work, and to bring to each piece something with which viewers can identify from their own personal mythology."

"TRADE ME THIS PIECE OF ART FOR YOURS," acrylic/enamel on canvas

“This art is cyclical. It is process oriented, installation, performance, and participatory. It is wished to be an impromptu group-show involving new, emerging, and established local artists. These are original pieces of artwork that are intended to temporarily function as paintings, yet, ultimately never become static. This exhibition is a commentary on the commodity of art. It is for artists, and also about artists.” –Chris Roberts.
