"Secret Gardens," paintings.
Segal returns to plant forms as subject, a theme she explored in the earlier years of her career. Rendered in both acrylic and/or oils on canvas, surfaces in several are further activated with the addition of collage. Segal's colors are laid down in layers in her own particular style. Segal's mid-career years were years focusing on the female form as theme. Her interest in organic shapes, whether flora or figure, has been constant. "Secret Gardens" are places deep in the artist's imagination. Thus, direct references to particular botanical species may be difficult to identify.

"Brown Studies," fiber-quilted wall art.
The quilts in this series can be seen as conversations among cultures represented by fabrics: African, American, Australian, Indonesian and Japanese. "Clashing" colors, patterns and textures can be juxtaposed because the eye is tolerant where the mind is not. Deeper patterns are thus simultaneously revealed and hidden, mysterious yet revelatory. Cacophony may become harmony, another landscape, another country revealed.
